Mom wrote their 2006 news, and because I'm lazy and much of our news is the same (and their news is more interesting than ours!), I will post most of her letter:
HAPPY HOLIDAYS! Hope all is going well for all of you. I thought I would send a note with 2006 happenings. If someone would have told me last year at this time all that was to happen in 2006 I’m not sure I would have been able to do it. It’s a good thing the future is “veiled” and that we live one day at a time. We made it through and are ready for a new year!
Jan. 8 mom was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s) Disease. They gave her 6 months to live as it had already progressed so far. From then they just treated symptoms. She had a lot of panic attacks and then came the phlegm problems, different things just kept coming then going away. Jocelyn and Craig announced in February that they were expecting in October. Mom said many times, 'I think I’ll make it until October, I want to see Jocelyn’s baby'. She died June 11 very peacefully on a Sunday morning.
We had put our town house (that we were living in) on the market a month or so before and sold it right away. We bought a 36’ fifth wheel trailer and moved it on a lot that Tim and his dad had bought. The lot had a modular on it that had been vandalized really bad. So we hooked up to the modular’s power and sewer and lived there until it started freezing for winter. Tim and others fixed the modular up with new sheetrock, new carpet, cupboard doors, paint etc. so we moved into the modular (2 bedroom) and plan to be there until our house is finished. We haven’t started on the house yet as we’ve had so many things come up. We are enjoying our tiny house though.
Justin and Kristy are still living here and Justin has been asked to take an even better position at Sierra Trading Post. He will start it in February. Kristy got her first teaching job as an art teacher at one of the junior high schools here. She started teaching with the new school year. They gave us the news Christmas weekend that they will be having a baby in July, we are really excited to have another grandchild as we love the one we have so much! Justin and Kristy will have a bigger paragraph next year as they’ll have baby news! :-)
Craig is still working for his folks in their store and does their web page design and up keep. Jocelyn is working at the hospital in the marketing department. She enjoys it. Jocelyn started having some swelling and high blood pressure towards the end of her pregnancy. She was due Oct. 19 but during the first week of October she was in such bad shape the doctor put her on bed rest then the next day he decided to induce labor. Brooklyn SueAnn was born the day after. This was a bitter sweet moment thinking of mom not living long enough to see this precious baby. She was 2 weeks early but weighed in at 8 pounds. She was 19 1/2” long. She was and is a beautiful and content baby. We see her nearly every weekend and can’t wait for the next weekend to get here! She is now around 14 pounds and 23+ inches long! I wonder if she’ll take after her tall daddy! She smiles all the time and is rarely fussy. I told Jocelyn and Craig they had better enjoy it as their next one may not be as good! Jocelyn said maybe they’d better not have any more children as they gave all their good genes to Brooklyn and may only have bad/ugly ones left! :-)
In July us three girls went to help dad go through some of mom’s things. Dad met Lois Turner; her husband and parents had all died within months of each other around 4 years ago so dad and Lois started communicating over the phone and e-mail about grief. In Sept. dad asked her to marry him and they got married Thanksgiving weekend. Tim and I went to the wedding and to meet Lois and her daughter, Elaine (and husband Landon). It was nice to see Kenna and Beth’s family there too.
Other than the death of mom, we lost 3 other dear friends in August. It was a hard summer as all the deaths were untimely deaths. It was so great to see a new birth though. I guess that is what life is about, life and death.
Of course there were lots of other happenings, just none monumental. Tim, his dad, and his brother-in-law are all in business together and have had a busy year. Neil started in with them in the early fall and it seemed to pick up then so I’m glad he’s with them. We hope to start on our house soon but I’m not holding my breath. I am really enjoying the small house and lack of cleaning! It’s kind of tight quarters when Jocelyn and Craig come for a weekend but we still enjoy it!
Tim, Duane, Brian some of their friends went to the North West Territories in Sept. to hunt caribou. Most of them had 2 caribou tags which also included fishing and a wolf. All but 1 of them got both of their caribou, they had a great time fishing and they did see some wolves but no one shot one. They were gone a little over a week and had a great time. Most important of all they all arrived home safely. They brought some caribou meat home, it doesn’t taste too bad!
I hope you all have a very good 2007!
Love Tim & Myrna
